                                                                                             Karmic Connections

In September 2009 amidst a challenging economic climate, I was looking for a nursing position to support my family. Jobs were scarce, and I was determined to find a role that would allow me to provide for my daughter and myself.

One day, I noticed a job listing in the newspaper for a nursing position near my home. To my surprise, it was my former nursing cohort seeking a week-end supervisor, and I got the job. That’s when I met Donna, a patient at the nursing home who, with her Tarot cloth adorned with astrological symbols, sparked a connection that felt destined. Our conversations flowed effortlessly, and soon, we were exploring birth charts together, creating a magical space amid the usual hustle and bustle. Donna’s presence became a light in my life, offering a stark contrast to the chaos around us. Being the week-end supervisor allowed us the flexibility to delve into astrological charts, turning our sessions into a cherished ritual. It was as if time stood still during those moments, enveloped by an ethereal and healing energy. Donna and I shared vibrant discussions, especially about energy planetary placements like Mars in Capricorn, which sparked lively debates and deepened our bond. I fondly recall the time we charted for a young woman planning a bold move with her new lover. Despite her eventual departure, we hoped we sowed seeds of insight. Sharing the news of my first grandchild’s birth with Donna was another memorable event. Her initial concerns turned into excitement as we explored the astrological pattern’s together.

On September 11 2010, I walked into Donna’s room to find her at the end of her journey. The atmosphere was serene , and I felt honored to be there with her. It was a quiet week-end, allowing me the privacy to tend to Donna without distractions. Through we often talked about going out to astrology meetings or dinner, those possibilities slipped away with her passing at 12:45 PM. The room seemed to fill with light, a reflection of Donna’s Jupiter energy, befitting her as a double Pisces with Pisces rising, Sun in Pisces and Mercury in Pisces. Her presence filled the room and touched us deeply. Her daughter, whom I had met before, came in visibly sad and offered me Donna’s Tarot cards, nestled in the beautiful, handmade bags she crafted. The intricate beading of all the planets on one bag became a cherished memory of our connection. Working with these decks always brings a smile to my face as I remember the bond we shared.

Finding the Book

On a visit to Longmont, I was perusing my astrology books. I’m always eager to revisit the ones I leave at home. I picked up “the Seeds of Astrology” by Donna Meckler, reflecting on our conversations. It’s been thirteen years since her passing. Memory can alter experiences, but I would’ve remembered if she mentioned this book.I was impressed; Donna had a PhD. Although it is out of print in the U.S. it’s available in Russian.

The book is an introduction to astrology, complete with exercises to grasp the energies of planets and signs. The zodiac wheel is divided with each sign, connected to a color turning astrology into an art project. By rearranging the wheel you can personalize anyone’s birth chart.

Memorizing the planets and signs is akin to mastering the times tables, laying the groundwork for deeper exploration. It requires patience and repetition. Sharing with a group and examining family charts can reveal a lot.

While the Sun is often highlighted, as everyone’s aware of their Sun sign, understanding a planet’s behavior, you can anticipate its influence and add the qualities of the sign and the houses meaning.

Astrology unveils motivations and drives, revealing what individuals strive for daily. It prompts the question; is life governed by free will or fate?  “ The Seeds of Astrology” provides a solid foundation, with a creative and playful approach to learning. It’s both relaxing and engaging.
